Bimbos are jock fanciers, ""Annies, Shirleys, Groupies, Starfuckers"" -- babes that can be had easily if you're on the right team. ""A Bimbo doesn't kid herself forever because she knows the ground rules; life will probably screw her just like all those other guys did."" As the subtitle suggests, this is less a sociological study of ""Bimbo-ology"" than a Shirleyesque true confessional. What the various interviewees appear to have in common -- besides sharing an occasional tailback or pro golfer -- is fantasizing, their need for self-esteem and/or masochism (""enough self-hatred to degrade themselves"") -- and especially their fondness for ""super-clean"" men. If the diddling jocks' view of women is chauvinist and cynical -- a ""pornographic, self-serving and giggly"" attitude according to the author -- then perhaps their status-seeking bed fans are playing right into their hands. Whatever their motives, Annies take their sex seriously. The relationships are mostly one-on-one coverage -- there's rarely any orgiastic gang-tackling behind the bleachers. Athletes are considered ""a beautiful breed of men"" in spite of their overinflated egos and oft apologized-for underinflated equipment. Apart from a few well-adjusted hangers-on the women bedded here are a sad lot and their experiences singularly unengrossing, be they the gridiron or putting green variety. Voyeuristic ego kicks with pricks.
