DESMOND AND DOG FRIDAY

A headline case--""Dog Lost on Island. Bridge Threatens Island. Dogs and Goats Break Up Bridge Hearing""--with a buried solution: the bone that Friday (from her footprints on the island) digs up and gives to absent-minded Professor Wiggins is from an early Indian cache that secures the island as a historic site. Not one of the dog detective's best but an acceptable farce for his fans who'll enjoy, as always, the canine view of Newton doings, and, new here, the role of the Hungarian puli Friday as a personality in her own right.
