DESMOND AND THE PEPPERMINT GHOST: The Dog Detective's Third Case

A dropped peppermint patty is the all-important clue that leads Desmond on his way to sniffling out the source of this latest Newtown mystery. Desmond, assisted by his brave, loyal, and true friend, his boy Gus, already proved his sleuthfulness in Desmond's First Case (1961), and Desmond, Dog Detective (1962). This time the criminal is Mr. Snigs, the candy-store owner. Seems he'd been stealing his own goodies in hopes of collecting on his insurance. Desmond and Gus catch him chocolate-coated handed masquerading as a ghost. The humor of these stories is enforced by the fact that aside from their ability to rationalize, Desmond and his doggy pals act entirely within the limitations of their canine characteristics. This one should be enjoyed as much as the previous two.
