KIRKUS REVIEW

A stimulating book, in that it immediately stirs np disagreement with many of its theses. Successive theories treated in brief, informal chapters, a style almost like thinking aloud, with many quotations interpolated from critics, artists, writers. He criticises modern painting, the function of art in our social scheme, our attitude toward art; he discusses art schools, commissions, methods of work, industrial art, various institutes, etc. Definitely class appeal, not popular; libraries, artists, critics, connoisseurs.
