LABOR'S CIVIL WAR

This is too important a problem in our national life to be relegated to the market concerned only in labor problems as such. Herbert Harris, author of an excellent history of American Labor, here goes further, into the study of the struggle which, he says, bids fair to nullify much of what labor has gained. Without fear of prejudice, he views both sides, -- A F of L and C I O. He cites facts and figures, criticizes both sides, and praises where praise is due. He sees the immediate need of a united front in order to meet the emergency which is upon us, else labor will dig its own grave. While paying tribute to both leaders, he criticizes them bitterly for their failure to submerge personalities in the cause. He presents the set-up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as a model of a united front, and suggests compromise measures to attain it. A provocative and constructive book, for labor and capital to study.
