SHALL WE SEND OUR YOUTH TO WAR?

By

Publisher: Coward, McCann

Another booklet reprint of an (American Magazine) article, in which the ex-president pleads for actual neutrality, in which he presents a case for burning all the bridges that might lead us into involvement with the European situation. He presents a word picture of the last war, of what it did to humanity, of the waste and cruelty; he shows how shallow were the bases on which we became involved, and how little we achieved; he traces the results, economically, the repudiation of war debts, the way in which our allies were ready to turn against us if we did not play the game their way; he traces the steps by which we are being lured into involvement today. And he begs us to insure the will to stay out, which, he says, is not a matter of legislation. He does not say anything new; from sheer weight of concrete facts, the Beard booklet is stronger.
