THE INNOCENT EYE by Herbert Read

ISBN: 1151199036
Publisher: Holt

In a detached and analytical fashion Mr. Read sets about to justify his life and life theories- and he enjoys expounding out loud. Claiming to be ""an anarchist, romanticist and agnostic"", his ideas are not too original nor revolutionary. A poet by nature and occupation, the early part of the book depicting his boyhood on a Yorkshire farm is very nice, written with integrity and simplicity of feeling. But the latter part, dealing with the author's intellectual growth, based on all great names of literature, philosophy and religion, is pedantic- choppy with citation... There may be a certain intellectual interest in this, but it is not for a popular market.
