REDEMPTION OF THE ROBOT

The twelfth volume in the Credo series under the overall editorship of Ruth Nanda Anshen, designed ""to point to a new dimension of morality of aspiration to spiritual experience"" is given over to Sir Herbert Read's educational beliefs. He feels that moral education holds a priority over the intellectual, which it must govern. He is at odds with the conception of national education on both political and psychological grounds--it is at once allied with the national government and at variance with the needs of individuality. He sees aesthetic laws as inherent in the biological processes of life itself and looks to an aesthetically oriented education to develop the moral (and emotional) elements of the person. He feels that the reestablishment of moral education, then, need not wait for a religious revival. He concludes his scholarly treatise with a salute to Eros, font of love and consequently creative endeavor. His is an intellectual appeal for an emotionally motivated life. It will be of particular interest to educators and highly endowed parents.
