KIRKUS REVIEW

Albert Jay Nock has arranged for publication those essays of Herbert Spencer which develop his theory of the danger in the march of Statism and the decline of the individual. Written before 1885, they are singularly apt as summing up the course of British and American State collectivist movements, and might well serve as a basic platform in defence of the rights of the individual. Nock, in his introduction, has linked the essays with today's problems; reenforcing Spencer's place as a social philosopher, an interpreter whose scientific findings are still apt today.
