FOUR RELIGIONS OF ASIA: A Primer

Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikkism, are the four religions described in this informative volume. The author does not attempt a critical analysis or evaluation of these religions, but aims to give the reader who has little understanding of them an account that will supply this want. He sees religion, of whatever kind, as a universal fact in human experience, and finds such a view congenial to the Judee-Christian tradition. In this volume, religion is treated in its essential nature as a social system. An introductory chart identifies each of the four faiths in terms of its origin--or founder -- its geographic spread, its scriptures, main divisions, etc. These topics serve as the scheme upon which the chapters are organized. The present status of each religion is also treated briefly. Annotated bibliographies add to the value of the book. Useful for those wishing to begin their reading in this very complicated field.
