Might have been left in the original German for all of me --one of those pallid, innocuous, futile books that seems in no way to justify translation and publication on foreign shores, even if there might be some slim justification for publication in its original habitat. The story of a young astronomer who tries to solve the problems of life and love by higher mathematics, and who fails. Plot mildly complicated by an ago centric young brother with a morbid terror of his mother becoming emotionally involved with a friend he has brought to the house, and who kills himself as a way out. Pass it up.
