A love story in a minor key -- as the title indicates, an ""interlude"" in the life of a young Englishman who takes with him to the Argentine, a letter of introduction to three conservative spinsters, who are bringing up their niece in the old traditions of their country. Romance enters -- the young people, after failing to override tradition, finally find a way -- and with unhappy results. The picture of life in the restricted social circles of the Argentine is quite delightfully painted.
