GLACIERS: Nature's Frozen Rivers

What glaciers are, how they are formed and how they move, how they are studied, and how they shape the land: the Nixons cover these basic topics in a brief text which, with its surfeit of italicized words, is little more than a string of definitions. Thirty-one black-and-white photos (in 58 pages) help to visualize such phenomena as crevasse, cirque, glacial erratics, lateral moraine, and kettle. Without the photos this is dry indeed; even with them it's uninteresting beyond the most limited, short-answer homework function.
