An orphan boy, a country home, and a dog, and thereby hangs and wags a tale. That this is a thinking dog's story comes across from the third paragraph-- ""Tana (Bryn's mother) had had many puppies in her long life, but each new litter seemed to her the most wonderful of all."" Bryn was enthusiastically chosen from the litter by Ken, on the way to a vacation with his aunt and uncle, who acted as his guardians. Uncle John, who was citified and not very sympathetic to either children or dogs, limited the period of ownership to the month's holiday time. As Ken dispiritedly returns home, a moist-eyed readership will follow the moist nose as Bryn snuffs his way all across New England for a whole year. When the two are reunited, the pale, wan, lonely boy has finally been taken to the heavenly haven of Gram and Gramp's sheep farm in Vermont. Bryn shows prodigious talents in the sheep dog line, and the farm looks bound to thrive and expand with the addition of the combined talents of Ken and Bryn. Lassie! You home again?
