FARO'S DAUGHTER

Polite comedy of Regency period manners in Georgette Heyer's lightest vein. High wealthy Ravenscar tries to prevent spirited Deb from marrying his nephew, because he disapproves of Deb's connection with her aunt's gaming house. Both initiate strategy to annoy Deb keeps it a secret that she does not intend to marry the nephew and has found a perfect wife for him; Ravenscar finds means to humiliate Deb, who retailates by kidnapping him, marrying off the nephew, and blasting Ravenscar out of her life. Then tables turned -- and Deb finally lands in his arms.
