These 39 stories from the editors of Highlights for Children might be a useful resource because they are all the right length for a bedtime read and all collected in one place. Parents who need bedtime stories for their children and have none of the myriad wonderful picture books available can feel secure that these stories are all grammatical and wholesome. If they are looking for anything more than that, they have come to the wrong place. Although it's not in keeping with the recommended age group, these stories would be fine for middle readers; the language is not difficult and they are all short enough to be finished in a sitting. Standard fare. No surprises, pleasant or otherwise.
