KIRKUS REVIEW

Don't sell this as a marriage mart. This is interesting material, psychologically speaking, for those who would have the status of not so blessed singleness analyzed authoritatively by various scientists and psychiatrists. Although in the editor's introduction, lack of opportunity is claimed as the main factor in the failure to marry, other basic causes are traced by contributors as they discuss insecurity, the fear of inadequacy in women; marriage shyness in men; desertions from the marital tradition and sexual motivation; parental responsibility; the Oedipus complex -- and in reverse -- the career woman; married neuters; divorce, etc. Turning from the psychological, there is a statistical breakdown of geographical predispositions towards marriage, occupational factors, and so on. The contributors include some generally well known names as Theodor Reik, Abraham Stone, Fritz Kahn.
