Originally published in 1941, this new edition of an old fashioned quartet continues to evoke the moods of yesteryear as four separate families at the turn of the century come to grips with such startling innovations as the sewing machine, the porcelain bathtub, roller skates and the horseless buggy. From the conversion of M'ma's ruffled young daughters to the amazing feats of the sewing machine through the exciting unveiling of the Bottomley's shiny new tub, (by far the funniest of the four) through the glowing arrival of the Pettingill's roller skates to the Browns' reluctant then joyous acceptance of the automobile, the spirit of Grandma's (or great-grandma's) day shines beautifully through. Miss Woodward has recreated her delectable periwinkle and pink illustrations and rewritten sections of the text for maximum enjoyment. This is a real treat, not to be missed, by any modern junior miss.
