This is written for the mathematically oriented student with an additional interest in electronics. Increasing numbers of young people fall into that category today, but the audience for this is still limited. Computers had their origin in the days of Ancient. Egypt and Home,- the abacus was a computer of sorts. By tracing these early computers through the development of the binary and decimals systems, the reader is given a background for appreciating the workings of digital and analog computers of modern times, as well as how they are used in our society and what lies ahead in the field of ""brain machines"". Stress is somewhat removed from the independent power of these machines and placed on the human powers required to make them function. No vocational slant.
