DOCUMENTS OF DIALOGUE

This volume sets forth in a comprehensive way important documents related to the current discussions going forward between Roman Catholics and Protestants. The author, who is religion editor of the Detroit Free Press, provides an introduction, in which ""dialogue"" is defined and given a historical setting, and also furnishes introductory notes connecting the various documents and passages quoted. Throughout, the thread of narratives is maintained, giving the reader a sense of the progress of ecumenical interests that have been leading to more extensive dialogue among the branches of the Christian church. Some of the outcomes of this ecumenism, such as the interchange of modes of worship and co-operation between clergy on social matters, are described. The resulting volume is not so much a repository of historically significant documents as it is a collection of statements, commentary, and correspondence mostly related to developments in recent years. The book should be useful both as a resource and as informative reading by those interested in ecumenism.
