THE STORY OF CHRISTINA

An original attempt to handle some difficult problems of adolescence- and a successful one. Christina is the unhappy drudge on a farm owned by a distant relative of her dead parents. Food is her only comfort and when she runs away from home, she does it to join the circus as a fat lady. Her inherent good nature, her excellent cooking, her sewing make her a valued member of the troupe. Then- as she becomes happier she is less inclined to fall back on food as a solace and loses weight to everyone's consternation. But Tina overrides this and makes a better life for herself with normal friendships, interests and even romance. Despite the bizarre circumstances of the story, the plot and characters remain unsensational and simple. The high level of interest is sustained throughout and teen agers will find sympathetic handling of varied teen-age problems as they are solved by the young people in the story.
