By this time Dr. Pomeroy, an associate and later biographer of Dr. Kinsey, has acquired a solid reputation among liberal parents as the man most to be trusted in instructing the young about sex. But in this book, Dr. Pomeroy makes it clear that parental responsibility does not end or begin with simply slapping Boys and Sex (1968) or Girls and Sex (1970) on the breakfast table, and walking off with a whistle. Here Pomeroy sketches for adults the theory behind the practice he recommends. There is an initially informative chapter on homosexuality and there are discussions of basic attitudes toward married sexual happiness, general remarks on home sex education for varying age groups, and a few familiar wave-making situations: from those nude four year-olds playing doctor to what to do when the college age offspring brings home a sleeping partner. Certainly many of Dr. Pomeroy's points are controversial, but there is much here that is fresh and incisive and he writes with a kind of nerveless sincerity which discourages the flippancy that might accompany dissent.
