KIRKUS REVIEW

Commander Steele has prepared a readable and accurate report of the nuclear submarine, what it is, how it is used and the sheer size of its strategic importance. A brisk rundown on submarine history starts the book which goes on to cover point by point, in an admirably organized and concise manner, the ship, its motive power, its weaponry and its handling in battle. The peace time use of the nuclear submarine in underwater reconaissance and guard duty as well as the unique men who live the difficult submarine life come in for a fair share of attention. The stringent qualifications that must be met by officers and crew for this duty will be of particular interest to Navy-minded boys.
