KIRKUS REVIEW

Yachtsmen and booksellers alike will welcome a new book by Chapelle...The well known naval architect and author of last year's continuous success History of American Sailing Ships. (Hy the way -- as a tribute to that success the publishers are bringing out five hundred copies in a special gift binding for the same $7.50 price.) The new book is on yacht designing and planning -- simple enough for the beginner to start from scratch, plan and build a seaworthy craft and advanced enough to enable the prospective yacht owner to plan intelligently and oversee the building of a yacht of more pretentious design. There is even a chapter devoted to contracts between owner and builder, showing the list of items that should be described in the specifications. Every customer who has a bont will be interested and many others who aspire to that luxury. Show it -- you may well be the inspiration for some very smart little craft next summer. Emphasize the fact that the book is for amateurs and therefore not technical in the purely theoretical, professional sense. The publishers have tried it, built a boat and gone to sea.
