KIRKUS REVIEW

Those of us who have followed Fast's writing from his earliest work will welcome this opportunity afforded readers to renew acquaintance with a distinguished American writer, and to introduce him to those unfamiliar with his work. The 19 short stories in this collection show the wide range of his gifts; the republication of an early- and to most readers, unknown short novel. The Children, is a valuable inclusion; Freedom Road, perhaps his best, certainly his most controversial book, is made again available; The Golden River has never been published- and gives another facet of Jewish history, a field in which Fast has done creative writing. Excellent value on all counts.
