No lazy, popcorn-fragrant bleacher sunning this, but rather a grimly serious manual for fathers bent on shaping up the kid for stiff competitive play. Those who feel that more big leaguers arise from unsupervised sandlot trial-and-error play than from backyard academies, may be cheered by the thought that not too many flabby fathers will take to this. Walk briskly and jog and spurt to the field; once there--one dozen side-straddle-hops, deep knee bends; sit-ups and push-ups. Then for any father left standing (or breathing for that matter), follow generally sound coaching tips on an immense variety of play, from theories of position movement to nit-picking specifics. With many illustrations this will be useful for elementary school profs stuck with phys. ed. and any adult involved in coaching baseball.
