GLASS by Howard Stephenson

The soil or industry -- that is the question. A moderately interesting story of a farmer who tries to keep his boy on the farm while the boy yearns to become a worker in a glass factory. A streak of melodrama comes in when gas is discovered in the district and the community booms, but for the most part it is of the earth earthy. A tragic love affair which breaks his son's heart, finally wins his father over.
