THE REBEL RAIDER

Pub Date: March 14th, 1934

An account of the Civil War hero, John Hunt Morgan of Kentucky, intended to clarify a life usually shrouded in legend and mystery. Border warfare, in meticulous detail, even to the minutiae of military procedure. Disposes once and for all of the main points of controversy as to his career, particularly in relation to his responsibility in what is known as the Copperhead Alliance and the Columbus defeat, to his escape from the Union Penitentiary, and to the actual cause of his death. He emerges from the mass of information not as an honored hero, but as a raider, inclined to think himself the ultimate law, not a first class military figure, nor of stamina such as is necessary for a great soldier, but a man continually undone by his love of women. A book for the close student of the Civil War -- too evidently written for a purpose to be good reading for the entertainment of the average reader.
