MURDOCH by Hubbell Pierce

Murdoch the mouse proves to children -- especially ""only"" children--that they can learn and master a game all by themselves. A croquet set from an uncle in Bolivia is Murdoch's prized possession, but his friends are not interested in the game. Undaunted Murdoch sets about learning croquet and exhibits his skill before friends and relatives at a grand show. Since more time and space is given to the sending out of invitations than to croquet, the young reader learns little or nothing about this old-fashioned sport.
