Not straight exploration adventure, but virtually a day by day, detailed account of the procedure, the selection of personnel, the choice of equipment and supplies, the trip out, the long trek to the start of the climb, the picking of guides and porters, and the diary of events. For anyone interested in the minutiae of mountain climbing, this is important, filled as it is with practical advice, scientific data, and the actual record as a working basis for the next assault on Everest. Lacks the color, the drama, the human element that one feels it might so easily have had. The illustrations help build this side of the appeal, however. Flight over Everest created a new interest in the subject and this could be sold to that market. Though with reservations.
