When Julien Greville, modern renaissance man, supreme egotist etc., discovers the murder of his wife and his servant and the theft of a priceless Goya, Paris is called to attention. Among the front line forces enlisted is the estimable Madame Aubrey whose special knack for ascertaining the character behind the crime quickly demonstrates that the two deaths are unrelated although committed almost simultaneously in the same place. Further complications arise in the form of Greville himself, blackmailers, former lovers and a third crime. Intrinsic intricacy very nicely done. Salut Madame!
