HOW TO WIN AT WILD-CARD POKER

Back in the days when men were men and poker was poker, catching someone with a fifth ace in the hole used to be reason enough for a smoking six-shooter. Zachary's game is not what the grizzly-faced cowboys in Miss Kitty's saloon in Dodge City play; this is civil suburban poker, played with a nickel or dime limit, ladies invited. Haying with wild cards, according to the author, builds the pot and the excitement. Here he describes more than twenty poker variants including such monstrosities as Chicago, Whiskey, Dr. Pepper, Follow the Queen, Spit in the Ocean, Khrushchev, Baseball, etc. Some are well-known; some are new and quite complicated. The thing to remember is that with four or six or eight wild cards kicking around, four kings is a piddling hand and a full house is not worth considering. It'll never convince a diehard seven card stud man, but in this corrupt and permissive age what can you expect?
