A HISTORY OF 1000 YEARS OF GREEK VASE PAINTING

The efforts of professor and photographer make this a seemingly thorough, imposing volume of a unique art. Greek vase painting has been traced as far back as 1100 B.C., and is considered to be the foundation for all Greek art which followed. The excellent photographs-- there are 335, 54 of which are hand-tipped colorplates-- trace the development of the art, showing the changes in technique, form and color. Professor Paolo, in his text, follows vase painting down through the Hellenistic era. Extensive notes, bibliography and place index contribute to make this a valuable study for historians and students of art and the ancients.
