HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF SEX

You can't make love wearing white gloves -- no matter how often Dr. Reuben tries. Writing again in the question-answer format with prose that's about as vigorous as a premature ejaculation (vagina: ""the penis's little grotto of pleasure""), Dr. Reuben is clearly still feeling prissy about how some of us disregard our ""God-given sexual roles"" -- femmes and butches, nymphomaniacs, perverts and fetishists (astonishing phrases coming from a sex therapist); ""homosexuals will be homosexuals,"" he notes with exasperation and tours us through a public toilet to prove it. Some of Dr. Reuben's notions are downright remarkable (syphilis in the young Hitler changed the course of history), often questionable (a blanket endorsement of replacement hormones), and on occasion merely laughable (hysterectomy takes out the baby carriage but leaves the playpen). What Dr. Reuben understands about human sexuality would fit into the run-down battery of a vibrator -- which may be why he's so enthusiastic about the electric toothbrush these days.
