This is an original work of theological profundity based on sound, painstaking scriptural scholarship. It represents a real and very vital contribution to modern Catholic theology. It is a ""biblical study"" (which must not be confused with a purely historical theology, and yet is far removed from purely speculative theology) of the doctrine of the Resurrection. Collecting all the relevant texts of the Old and New Testaments, the author develops the thesis that the Resurrection is, in a sense, the most significant event in the history of man's redemption and salvation. He then depicts at length the ramifications of this event on every important aspect of Christian life and thought. This is the type of book that can bring about profound changes not only in theology but also in the thought and life of the generally educated reader. It is easy to see why the French original has been described as ""the standard work on the subject because of its comprehensiveness and the knowledge and penetration with which it is written.
