FLIGHT TO ENGLAND

An Englishwoman goes back to England to see for herself ""the shaping of great events by a great people"". And she has shared her findings -- her relearning to assess the thoughts and emotions, and secondarily the actions of her people; she has given as vigorous and human a picture of England ""paying without stint, without complaint, without trying to unload the blame on other shoulders"" the price of blood and sweat and tears. She has visited the industrial areas, the cities and the villages, the camps, the bombed areas, the Limehouse section of London -- and Claridges --and all levels between. She has gone back to old haunts, rediscovered their magic; she has talked and listened to people in all ranks and walks of life; she has seen England changing --swinging Left in her own way. There is something that cuts deep in this record; it is not that she tells a different story from the story others have told, but she writes with punch and humor and fearlessness, as she broke windows years ago. I liked it!
