ELEPHANTS IN THE GARDEN

Joey Gordon lived opposite New York City's Madison Square Garden. Joey did an errand for Slim, the gate keeper who looked after the circus which was quartered there. And Slim let Joey explore the wonders of the circus. He showed Joey how to care for elephants. Joey was cleaning Babe, a big elephant, when a crisis in the big ring left the elephant untended. When his cue sounded the elephant walked into the big ring with Joey on his back. Neither story nor illustrations has much character or conviction.
