An I-remember is loaded with sentimental liens and fond nostalgia and returns to the childhood of Lynette, who tells this story, on the Los Moros Ranch where she found herself at 14 as the protegee of a rigid uncle George. There, with only a few older people around her, the companionship of Richie, the coachman's son, is a strong first affection. There too, the memories and fantasies of Babe, her cousin who had drowned under never fully explained circumstances, fill her mind. And as the years pass, old letters as well as hearsay and occasional conversations reconstruct her death and increase her identification with Babe who had left her mark on many men. And finally the parallel is consumated when Richie is killed and a new tragedy equals the old... A return to youthful times which is more evocative than eventful. Rentals.
