Piccolo was a Bunker Hill (Los Angeles) monkey who lived and worked with an organ grinder. He showed a great dramatic flare when he did his act, but whenever he got loose, he would crawl under the nearest car to be a mechanic. He caused a neighborhood uproar, though, when he scampered below the Angel's Flight cable car during a stop. The simple but holding Story is splendidly illustrated with a Gauguinesque use of color and perspective, and details that can be searched after for hours.
