Pub Date: Feb. 27th, 1952
Publisher: Association Press

A reference book in a unique sort of field. The editors have brought together 529 poems from 282 poets, the majority of them relatively contemporary, at least within our century, and most of them names unknown to the average student of poetry. The basis of selection would seem to be primarily of practical, everyday use, with some attention to the pattern of the Christian year, but with almost no focus on specific human needs, devotional, spiritual, inspirational. A family book (as evidenced by its choice for use at some point in 1952 by the Christian Herald Family Reading Shelf). A collection that should prove useful for ministers of the Protestant denominations who need material for parish papers, for apt quotation and so on. The main headings indicate the scope:- Nativity; In Nazareth; The Man Christ Jesus; The Way of the Cross; The Continuing Calvary; Resurrection; Come, Follow Me; The Continuing Christ; The Revolutionist; The Lost Christ; The Triumphant Christ. A staple item, for continued sale and use.
