WORLD ATLAS: New Perspective Editions

For most laymen, this is the edition to covet. Larger in size than its predecessor, it contains 320 pages in full color, maps amazingly up to date (A successful and undoubtedly informed guess includes two new African ""countries"" announced as the Atlas was completed). Decision on boundaries had to be taken and may cause trouble in the international sales (Ex.: the boundaries of India and Pakistan; of Israel and its Arab neighbors, of Mainland China, etc.). For practical purposes it is superb. The cross indexing is very valuable, though cursory check revealed occasional omissions (Ex.: Sinkiang). Supplementary material in gazeteer index. Important note--sources and dates given with population tables.
