Stearns gathered together the work of 30 American writers in 1922, for a book similar in plan. Some of the men are again represented, there are many new ones in this symposium of 44 writers, including several who present American civilization as seen by foreigners. A challenging book and a landmark in our social and cultural history. Among the subject and authors are the following:- the labor movement, science, radicalism (George Soule) psychiatry (Menninger), poetry (Louise Bogan), radio and motion pictures, industry, advertising (Durstine), corporals of industry, communist mentalities, law, war, education, the press, the family, medicine, race prejudice, religion, birth control, music and so on.
