COLUMBUS

By

Publisher: Doubleday

The d'Aulaires' striking colored pictures and their narrative which paints the overtones of tragedy in Columbus' life would seem to command recognition as a good account of the first recorded discovery of America. The account of Columbus' life is full and carries the sequence of events Further, for example, than the recently reported The CoLumbus Story by Alice Dalgliesh (p. 649). The interpretation here also seems more complete for it describes Columbus as personally ambitious and frustrated rather than a solely selfless pioneer. Good.
