INGVILD'S DIARY

This diary of an eleven year old Norwegian girl who came to spend a summer at the Children's International Summer Village is unique among this year's juveniles, for Ingvild comments with an honest sophistication and facility of phrase that gives a fresh picture of America through a foreigner's eyes. For her month in Cincinnati near which the camp is, Ingvild, and groups of children from countries ranging from Mexico to Austria, led a camp life charged with the excitement of internationalism. Though their activities were the usual ones- sports, handicrafts, skits, singing, cooking- their world was one of different cultures of which Ingvild for one is often quite thoughtfully aware. She looks at all things, from American eating habits to the personalities of her counselors, and makes her judgments with noteworthy consideration and humor.
