This is the inaugural lecture of the Saint Augustine Lecture Series on Saint Augustine and the Augustinian Tradition sponsored by Villanova University. The lecturer is a distinguished Plotinian and Augustinian scholar. His thesis is that the true concept of the person and personality originates in western thought with St. Augustine as he contemplates the doctrine of the Trinity. Relatedness to other persons is one of the essential characteristics of St. Augustine's view of the person. The lecture under consideration is very scholarly but at the same time the author constantly relates his topic to current personalist, ecumenical and international preoccupations. The market for this book will probably be restricted to university libraries and to professors and students of theology and philosophy.
