WILDLIFE REFUGES

Gabrielson is the director of Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and his book has a highly specialized appeal for all concerned in problems of conservation, and for students of wildlife and naturalists. The average reader would find the material competently handled but not enlivened with the ""human interest"" bits about animals that would extend the appeal to the general public. For such readers, the chapter on Seal Refuges in Alaska and the Okefenokee Swamp are the most interesting. State refuges, private refuges, federal operated refuges, -- one after another, meticulously presented, with purpose, history, operation and so on -- from Canada to Mexico. Undoubtedly the most comprehensive book on the subject that has been published, well planned, well executed.
