FUND RAISING

A how-to manual that advises young people about raising money for projects and charities--stressing planning and publicity and including ideas for sales, events, and services. The publicity suggestions are naive (e.g., invite all the TV, radio, and newspaper reporters to a press conference and serve them coffee); and the ideas are commonplace (bake sale, fair, dance, baby-sitting); but the emphasis on learning about local laws and rules governing sales and events could prove useful. Still, the index is so excessively detailed that it is only marginally helpful: ""Town, as beneficiary of fund raising"" refers the reader to the text, which states only that ""Other groups of kids are raising money for their school or town."" ""Friendship,"" ""Popularity of cause,"" ""Sack races,"" and ""Extra money, what to do with it"" are other entries that add little information.
