Through typical experiences, and with suggestions for essays and projects to be developed in relation to this material, this explains why ""they left home""- the economic, political and social motives; what the new country promised; the statistics of immigration; the conditions faced on arrival and the formation of ethnic communities; anti-immigrant manifestations as well as the rift between old and young; and finally the Anglo-American dominance which frustrates democratic conditions.
