BEAVERS LIVE HERE

Observed from time to time by a not very hungry bear or an (understandably) indifferent frog, a drab pair of beavers go about their workaday activities. They cut trees, build a lodge, eat, grow fat, grow thin again and reproduce more beavers who cut trees, etc. It's a minutely calibrated revolution of the life cycle but, as in Moose Live Here (1970), the dramatic interest is nil and the information, excruciatingly slowly doled out, is inappropriate to the age level suggested by the read-aloud tone. The photos, intimate portraits of the beavers in their natural surroundings, are a saving grace.
