KIRKUS REVIEW

For the layman, anxious to familiarize himself with the changed concepts and terms of modern mathematics (assuming that he has completed plane geometry and elementary algebra) Irving Adler, who teaches at Columbia, explains the several number systems which have made possible the development of a more extensive science. The more modern concepts are introduced first through familiar examples- then less familiar, and mastery of the expanded number systems is made possible through a ""do it yourself"" section at the end of each chapter..... A presentation which demands a high level of concentration and comprehension and which should be rewarded by the more serious student.
